Welcome to Year Five
Sharing our learning with the WHOLE world!
This term we are learning about coding using the website code.org
The children have learnt to build simple algorithms (sequences of instructions) and are now moving onto more complex commands, such as using loop commands. I think they're all a bit addicted to code.org! They are showing great critical thinking skills!
Yesterday we all became a planet and learnt some facts about that planet. We then went 'planet speed dating' so we could share what we had learnt! Each time the buzzer sounded, we had to find a new planet partner to share information with!
What did you learn? Leave a comment and you might get a star!
Today we learnt all about our Solar System. The children had two challenges: firstly to explain why the Sun and Moon appear in our sky to be the same size, even though we know the Sun is far larger. Then we created a class model to show how far apart all the planets are...
Here's some photos to explain why the Sun and Moon look like they're the same size, even though we know the Sun is really huge compared to the Moon!
And here are some more...
On Friday afternoon we began our Space Explorers topic with a challenge to create rockets to save the International Space Station! Let's just say we had a lot of fun, but I'm not sure how pleased the astronauts will be!
To mark the end of our Brainwave topic, the children worked in groups to create presentations about the brain. They did so well, each presenting confidently what they'd learned - well done, everyone! You can see photos from the presentations below, as well as the slides the children made!
This week in our Computing lessons, we've been learning about why passwords are important and how we can make them really secure - check out some of our posters for some great password tips!
