Welcome to Year Five
Sharing our learning with the WHOLE world!
In English lessons recently we've been studying the narrative poem, 'The Jabberwocky'. We split into groups and learnt the poem and created our own group performances - you can watch them below!

In this afternoon's topic lesson, the class worked in groups to manage a disaster emergency! They had to make crucial decisions to save the lives of people on the Carribean island of Montserrat, after a huge volcano erupted! Important information about the disaster was put onto a map of the island, and then the teams had to divide the island into 'Safe' zones and 'No-go' zones. The teams worked fantastically well and made some great choices - well done, everyone!
Today's topic lesson involved us modelling the different type of tectonic plate boundaries using crackers and jelly - take a look! Last week, children from KS2 enjoyed a cricket masterclass with the former captain of the England cricket team, Mike Gatting! What an experience!
Well done, Year Five, for all your great work in International Arts Week! Donald the Eagle and Bernie the Parrot are proud of you!
This morning we used Minecraft to investigate square and cubed numbers. Year Five - if you can leave a comment that explains really well what square and cubed numbers are, then you might earn a Critical Thinking star!
Today in arts week we've begun a task to complete a sketch of a wolf. The children were given half of a photo of a wolf and they are working to complete the picture, using different sketching techniques and pencils - you can see the completed pictures on Friday in lesson 7 outside the KS2 classrooms.
This week in KS1 & KS2 it's International Arts Week. Each class has been given a continent and their art work will be related to wildlife from that part of the world. Here in Year 5 we're looking at North America. To give our maths work today an artistic twist, we looked at cartioid patterns and then created our own: We also began our work for our whole of Primary School piece of art - we have all drawn our own picture of a N.American plant (we have lots of cactii!), but we were only allowed to use the colour blue - each class has their own colour and the final pieces will be displayed in a rainbow of colours on Friday!
Year Five were terrific in this morning's 15th Birthday concert for Charter - we were the only class to sing two songs and both got huge cheers - well done! We've also been out on the field to take the '15' whole school drone photo!
